The Ministry

The Age of Hope Ministries exists to point people back to that kind of hope, the kind that holds on before it sees the answer. Through preaching, teaching, and writing, this ministry shares the gospel with an emphasis on the Spirit's ongoing work, the endurance of faith through hardship, and the stories that carry us from one generation to the next.

Rev. Dr. Joyce A. Johannesen (Lighari)
Joyce has spent her life following where hope leads, from a childhood in Brooklyn to pastoring small rural congregations today. She is an ordained Elder in the Global Methodist Church, holding a Master's degree in Biblical Studies and an EdD, both from Trevecca Nazarene University. She brings that depth of study into preaching and teaching that stays rooted in scripture and close to people's real lives. Her work in senior advocacy has included directing care programs and taking part in national conversations on aging.
She is a writer as well as a pastor, and her memoir Twin Rivers reflects the same conviction that shapes her ministry: that hope holds on before it sees the answer, even when the answer is slow in coming. She has also written numerous Bible studies and devotionals, including her daily devotional Abide, and shares reflections across several social media platforms for those who want a steady word of hope in their day.
Joyce is married and the mother of a large family that continues to grow with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether from the pulpit, the page, or a screen, her hope is simple: that others would come to know the God who never lets go.
She is available to speak, preach, or teach at churches, retreats, and conferences, and would love to hear from you.
